Resolved Question: What’s so great about Phoenix, AZ?
I am a REALTOR in the Phoenix, AZ and surrounding areas, and I want to find out what people like or dislike about The Valley of the Sun. And the heat is way too easy, and some of us natives still play in the AZ summer sun.

What I would like to find out what it is that makes Arizona, and in particular, Phoenix, Scottsdale, and other suburbs desirable? Is it the 300 average days of sunshine? Our 72.6 F annual average temperature? How about our Scottsdale, Tempe, Phoenix, and other cities nightlife? Could it be the hiking, mountain biking, offroading trails? Did I forget about the lakes and rivers near our valley? Or just maybe could it be the affordable Real Estate? Our Cost of living being less than other big cities? Sports? You tell me, please? :D

Resolved Question: Is this corrupt?
Last year’s huge $286-billion federal transportation bill included a little-noticed slice of pork pushed by Harry Reid that provided benefits not only for the casino town of Laughlin, Nev., but also, possibly, for the senator himself.

Reid called funding for construction of a bridge over the Colorado River, among other projects, “incredibly good news for Nevada” in a news release after passage of the 2005 transportation bill.

Harry Reid failed to mention, though, that just across the river in Arizona, he owns 160 acres of land several miles from proposed bridge sites and that the bridge could add value to his real estate investment.

We have bridges collapsing due to lack of maintenance, but Harry Reid gets a new bridge that adds value to his own personal property? Is this the democratic culture of corruption?
Ladies & Gentlemen, Don’t shoot the messenger. Yes both sides of the fence are guilty of this, however I remember during the election that Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid saying they were going to eliminate pork spending.

Funny how now that they are in power they now are leading the charge, they can’t spend the money fast enough.

Joan Myers (b. June 11, 1944): Salton City (Palms), from the series The Salton Sea, 1986, printed 1989 – platinum-palladium print with watercolor on paper (Smithsonian)

“In low places consequences collect, and in all North America you cannot get much lower than the Imperial Valley of southern California, where the waters of the Colorado river sustain a billion-dollr agricultural industry. The consequences of that industry drain from the valley into the accidentally man-made Salton Sea California’s largest lake and in desperate environmental trouble. A second river ends in the Salton Sea. It is a river of dreams, the remains of which may be seen in the failed real estate developments that sprawl beside the sea. As the ending point of both the real Colorado and this river of dreams, the Salton Sea is emblematic of much of the history of the American West.” Text by William deBuys

Resolved Question: I have a question about real estate and lot size in Alaska?
Someone who lives in Alaska or even sells real estate in Alaska could help with this question.

I live in Florida, but I’m thinking about moving to Alaska (okay – sounds odd, but let’s continue.)

I am looking at houses on realtor.com in the areas surrounding Anchorage. It seems like even in towns like Eagle River and Willow, the lot size is small.

I currently live on 1 acre, and all of the lots in my neighborhood are 1 acre. A quarter-acre lot is about the smallest we get here.

But the Alaska suburban properties have much smaller lots – 1/10th of an acre — something like that.

So – I figure I’m MISSING something here. There must be a good reason for this. Or maybe I’m just looking in the wrong place. Because I have little/no knowledge of Alaska real estate, I’m looking for some help. Thanks!
